Two Weeks After Middle-Aged Revision Rhinoplasty With Silicone Removal
본문

It has been two weeks since I underwent revision rhinoplasty after removing a long-standing silicone implant.
More than 30 years ago, I had my nose augmented with silicone without much understanding at the time.
I lived fairly satisfied for many years, but recently I began to notice a dent forming along the nasal bridge, which gradually became more pronounced.
At the same time, asymmetry of the nostrils worsened, which caused significant concern and led me to seriously consider revision surgery.
Because I live overseas and did not have the time to visit multiple clinics in person,
I spent a considerable amount of time researching through plastic surgery communities and forums.
I narrowed my options down to about three clinics and contacted them via messaging for consultations.
One clinic even told me that they do not perform rhinoplasty for middle-aged patients, which was discouraging.
My first in-person consultation was with Dr. Hyunjoo Kim at RU Plastic Surgery,
and I scheduled revision surgery immediately after that visit.
His explanations regarding my concerns were clear, confident, and medically sound, which gave me a strong sense of trust.
The surgical plan involved complete silicone removal,
use of dermal graft material for the nasal bridge,
and reconstruction of the nasal tip using autologous rib cartilage combined with fascia.
Given my age, I did not want excessive height or a dramatic change in facial impression,
so this conservative and balanced approach felt appropriate.
The surgery was performed under general anesthesia.
I am usually very sensitive to anesthesia and experience severe dizziness afterward,
but this time I woke up without any dizziness at all, which was a pleasant surprise.
I had been worried about pain from rib cartilage harvesting,
but I only wore a compression band for one day,
and aside from discomfort during forceful sneezing, the pain was very manageable.
Of course, individual experiences may vary, but I personally did not find recovery difficult and was able to sleep well.
Using a travel neck pillow also helped significantly during rest.
It has now been just over two weeks since the splint removal,
and I am extremely satisfied with the nasal shape.
Previously, my nose appeared long and overly elevated from the glabella downward,
but now the proportions feel much more balanced.
The nostrils have become nearly perfectly symmetrical,
and I finally feel confident holding my head up in front of others.
Although there is still residual swelling around the alar area,
overall satisfaction is very high, and I am pleased with the progress so far.
