One-Year Postoperative Review After Contracted Nose Revision Surgery

It has already been over a year since I underwent revision surgery
for a contracted nose.
After my initial rhinoplasty many years ago,
I remained dissatisfied with the shape and underwent a revision two years later.
More than a year after that second surgery,
I developed an infection, which led to the removal of all implants
and the ear cartilage used at the nasal tip.
Following this, the contracture gradually worsened.
While searching specifically for surgeons experienced in contracted nose revision,
I came across Dr. Kim Hyun Joo.
From the consultation, I felt that he genuinely cared about patients,
and after reviewing the PPT materials detailing his surgical techniques
and before-and-after cases for contracted nose revision,
it was clear that he approached these surgeries with deep expertise and commitment.
Based on this, I decided to proceed with revision surgery at RU Plastic Surgery.
Before surgery, I underwent several sessions of stem cell injection therapy
to help soften and improve the elasticity of the scarred tissue.
I do not remember the exact number,
but I believe it was around three to four sessions.
The injections were quite painful,
but they were explained as necessary to improve tissue flexibility,
so I endured the process despite the discomfort.
For the revision, autologous costal cartilage was used for the nasal tip,
along with correction of the contracted nose and short nose deformity.
For the nasal bridge, diced autologous costal cartilage
was wrapped with scalp fascia and placed as an autologous structural graft,
functioning similarly to an implant but using only the patient’s own tissue.
Now, more than a year later,
I have experienced no issues related to infection
and overall stability has been well maintained.
There has been some internal scar tissue formation,
which has been treated with scar-reducing laser therapy
during follow-up visits,
and it has gradually decreased over time.
While this treatment is uncomfortable,
it is far more tolerable compared to the stem cell injections prior to surgery.
For anyone struggling with a contracted nose
and considering revision surgery,
I would strongly recommend at least scheduling a consultation.
