Five-Week Postoperative Review After Primary Rhinoplasty
본문

Hello.
Since childhood, I have had a short and low nasal bridge along with a bulbous nasal tip,
and for a very long time, I hoped that if the opportunity ever arose,
I would eventually undergo rhinoplasty.
I currently live in the United States, and by coincidence,
I was able to secure a flight to Korea.
I felt that this would be the right time to finally proceed with nose surgery.
While researching extensively, I came across a video by a YouTuber named Yuhan.
After sending a direct message and receiving clinic recommendations,
I was first introduced to RU Plastic Surgery, which marked the beginning of my in-depth research.
I searched tirelessly through plastic surgery apps, online communities,
and review forums to find a surgeon with proven expertise.
Because I live overseas, I was especially concerned about potential complications.
I knew that rhinoplasty carries a relatively higher risk of postoperative issues,
and being abroad would make immediate follow-up difficult if any problems arose.
For this reason, it was essential for me to find a surgeon
who could deliver a safe and reliable result in a single procedure,
without the need to worry about revision surgery.
During my research, Dr. Hyunjoo Kim of RU Plastic Surgery consistently stood out.
I repeatedly came across reviews stating that many patients
“graduated” from revision rhinoplasty after surgery at this clinic.
As I learned more, I discovered that Dr. Kim had previously worked
at a well-known large plastic surgery hospital,
and now operates a one-surgeon system in which
he personally performs all surgeries and postoperative care.
I was also reassured to learn that a dedicated in-house anesthesiologist
is always present.
These factors naturally led me to feel confident in choosing RU Plastic Surgery.
Because I live overseas, I initially contacted the clinic via KakaoTalk
and communicated with the consultation manager, Ms. Kim Minju.
Despite the time difference and my limited schedule,
she responded promptly and kindly at all times, even on weekends.
She carefully coordinated a postoperative care schedule
that fit my stay in Korea, which greatly increased my trust in the clinic.
Before my in-person consultation,
I sent photographs via KakaoTalk for a preliminary evaluation.
Based on these images, Dr. Kim provided an initial assessment
and proposed a surgical plan that included
autologous rib cartilage for the nasal tip,
silicone for the nasal bridge,
short nose correction,
bulbous nose correction,
nasolabial angle adjustment,
columellar lowering,
and alar reduction.
The plan was to use silicone for the bridge
and autologous rib cartilage for the tip.
When I later attended the in-person consultation in Korea,
the plan aligned closely with my expectations,
and we proceeded exactly as initially discussed.
After surgery, I received very detailed instructions
regarding postoperative care and precautions.
Whenever I had questions or concerns,
the responses were consistently fast and thorough.
Because I stayed near the clinic during my recovery period,
being told to come in immediately if needed
gave me significant peace of mind.
I also appreciated being informed that swelling injections
and laser treatments were available as frequently as needed,
which reflected the clinic’s attentive and patient-centered approach.
When the nasal splint was removed on postoperative day seven,
I was honestly quite shocked.
Having seen many videos where patients are thrilled
by dramatic changes immediately after splint removal,
I had expected something similar.
Instead, my nose appeared extremely swollen
and larger than I had anticipated.
I was reassured that this was completely normal
and that the swelling would gradually subside.
Although it was difficult to fully accept at that moment,
each passing week brought noticeable improvement.
As the swelling continued to decrease,
my nose began to look more natural
and increasingly resembled the result I had hoped for.
Because I needed to return to the United States two weeks after surgery,
the clinic also provided precautionary medications
in case of any unexpected issues.
I am now five weeks post-operation,
and I am very satisfied with how steadily the swelling is resolving
and how naturally my nose is settling.
So far, there have been no complications,
and I feel reassured and pleased with the progress of my recovery.
