One-Month Postoperative Review After Revision Rhinoplasty at RU Plastic Surgery

I am writing a one-month postoperative review
after undergoing revision rhinoplasty at RU Plastic Surgery.
My biggest congenital concern had always been a short nose.
Three years ago, I had my first rhinoplasty
without thoroughly researching beforehand.
As a result, the short nose was barely corrected,
and even after surgery, there was almost no change in the columella.
Although it was not a contracture nose,
the auricular cartilage gradually resorbed over time,
making the nasal tip appear even more upturned.
I prefer a rounded nasal tip
that is not overly sharp or dramatic.
The nasal style at RU Plastic Surgery aligned well with my personal taste,
so it had already been on my consultation list.
After watching a YouTuber’s review,
I felt even more drawn to the clinic
and decided to proceed with a consultation.
Following the consultation,
the surgical plan included a silicone implant for the nasal bridge
and autologous rib cartilage for the nasal tip,
along with short nose correction, pinched nose correction,
and columellar lengthening.
The radix height was slightly lowered,
and the nasal tip was structurally reinforced and lowered using rib cartilage.
Among the clinics I consulted,
two recommended auricular cartilage,
which made the choice of revision material difficult.
However, Dr. Kim Hyun Joo explained clearly and decisively
why autologous rib cartilage was necessary,
which gave me confidence.
Now, I truly feel that choosing rib cartilage was the right decision.
The cost of revision surgery at RU Plastic Surgery
was approximately 1.5 times higher than at other clinics,
which made me hesitate.
However, Dr. Kim’s strong sense of responsibility toward his patients
and a thorough comparison of postoperative reviews
ultimately led me to choose RU Plastic Surgery.
Postoperative Recovery Process
During my first rhinoplasty,
I barely felt any pain from the day of surgery.
This time, however, until the nasal packing was removed,
there was significant bleeding and discomfort,
which made me wonder if everything was normal.
Once the packing was removed,
my nose felt much more comfortable,
and the rib cartilage donor site was painful only on the first day
and felt fine starting from the second day.
What surprised me most
was that even though I did not experience severe swelling
after my first surgery,
this time there was almost no swelling around the eyes or face at all.
There was also very little bruising.
After splint removal,
the overall swelling continued to decrease well.
Because pinched nose correction was performed
and my nasal skin is relatively thick,
I was informed that nasal tip swelling
could last up to six months.
The side profile swelling is minimal,
but there is still noticeable swelling from the front,
so I plan to give it more time.
For patients with a similar case,
I think it is important to keep this in mind
when deciding on the timing of surgery.
What I Am Satisfied With and What I Found Challenging
The aspect I am most satisfied with
is the improvement seen from the front view.
While researching clinics,
I realized that although side profile correction
is relatively common,
very few clinics achieve strong improvement from the front.
After revision surgery at RU Plastic Surgery,
my nose, which previously looked short and pinched,
now descends with volume rather than appearing thin,
resulting in clear frontal improvement.
The side profile is not dramatic
due to tight skin,
but it looks naturally refined,
and the columella has been lowered well.
One minor concern is that,
because the short nose was lengthened,
there was some redness and purplish discoloration at the nasal tip.
This was quite noticeable early on,
but it has mostly resolved by now,
which is a relief.
Within the limitations of my original nasal structure,
I feel that the result was optimized as much as possible.
I prefer a natural-looking nose,
and I am satisfied knowing that the improvement looks harmonious
and will remain appropriate even as I age.
I truly hope that my nose continues to remain stable and strong,
and that this revision rhinoplasty will be my final nose surgery.
