Reason for Surgery and One-Month Postoperative Experience After Autologous Rib Nasal Tip Surgery at RU Plastic Surgery

Before surgery, I was concerned about several issues,
including a dorsal hump, a long nose,
a parrot-beak–like appearance that widened and looked unattractive when smiling,
and flaring nostrils.
Rather than increasing the nasal bridge,
I wanted to focus primarily on improving the nasal tip.
I had heard that RU Plastic Surgery specializes in contracture nose
and autologous rib revision rhinoplasty,
so I decided to visit for a consultation.
Although it was the most expensive option,
the surgical approach—reinforcing the septal structure
using only autologous rib cartilage
without manipulating other cartilage—appealed to me the most.
There were some administrative changes during the process,
but overall, I am satisfied with the surgical outcome.
Regarding the surgical plan,
because my nasal bridge was already sufficiently high due to the dorsal hump,
it was decided not to alter the bridge.
The procedure was performed without an implant on the bridge,
and only the nasal tip was extended using autologous rib cartilage.
I was told during consultation that elevating the nasal tip
would also help improve the flaring nostrils
by providing upward support,
which made sense to me.
In terms of recovery,
I was informed that swelling would be most noticeable
around days three to four after surgery.
However, to my surprise,
I experienced almost no swelling at all.
There was also no bruising.
Since this was my first rhinoplasty
and only the nasal tip was operated on,
I asked whether that was the reason.
I was told that skin dissection had still been performed up to the bridge,
so that alone did not fully explain it.
Although I understand that recovery varies from person to person,
I personally feel that Dr. Kim Hyun Joo’s surgical technique
played a significant role in minimizing swelling.
Now that the swelling has subsided,
the nose looks even more natural,
and I am very satisfied with the overall design.
The columellar scar was quite red up until about two weeks postoperatively,
so I was initially worried it might remain noticeable.
However, now at one month,
it has faded significantly,
and I feel it will soon be barely noticeable.
The incision site where the rib cartilage was harvested
is still not very aesthetically pleasing,
but during my recent follow-up visit,
I was advised to apply scar ointment consistently.
I plan to continue proper care
and hope that all scars will improve and fade with time.
