Delayed 6-Month Follow-Up After Revision Surgery for Contracted Nose

It has been over six months since I underwent revision surgery for a contracted nose at RU Plastic Surgery, so I’m sharing an updated review. Recently, to address some remaining and somewhat excessive scar tissue, I received steroid injections to reduce the scars around the area, as well as laser treatment inside the nostrils for internal scarring. Although my skin was red and irritated for a few days, once healed, the scars appear noticeably flatter than before. The scar on the columella (the area between the nostrils) was clean from the start.
For the nasal dorsum, the surgeon used diced rib cartilage placed under the temporalis fascia, functioning like an implant. I was informed that this method can cause slower reduction of swelling and moisture retention, which may explain why the shape looks even better after six months.
After the revision surgery, my feelings were mixed—some aspects were disappointing while others were satisfying. However, over time, the areas I was concerned about have gradually improved. Compared to my previous nose, the repositioned columella now looks normal, and I no longer feel uneasy when people comment on my nose. Before the revision surgery, I used to wear a mask constantly because I felt uncomfortable and self-conscious, especially when making eye contact during conversations.
Regarding the rib cartilage donor site scar, after about five months, the redness has faded significantly, leaving a slightly opaque white line. I considered laser treatment for the scar, but was advised that laser works best for irregular or keloid scars, which I fortunately do not have, so I decided against it. Given my satisfactory healing progress, I feel comfortable with this decision.
Before surgery, I doubted whether I could achieve the straight, defined nose I wanted—somewhere between a straight and slightly elevated nasal tip. Now, the result closely matches my expectations, and I’m very pleased. I’m even happy to take selfies without needing to hold my phone at awkward angles.
I underwent revision surgery with Dr. Kim Hyun-joo, which included autologous rib cartilage for the nasal tip, diced rib cartilage combined with temporalis fascia for the nasal dorsum, correction of a short nose, and reconstruction of the columella.
