3 Weeks Post-Op Update – Contracted Nose Revision at RU Plastic Surgery
본문

Hello, I’m in my early 20s, and 14 years ago I underwent my first rhinoplasty at a local clinic without proper research—an impulsive same-day consultation and surgery.
My original nasal structure was low and bulbous, and unfortunately, the results from that initial surgery were extremely disappointing.
There was virtually no aesthetic improvement.
About 2–3 years later, I underwent a second surgery after more thorough research. It looked fine for about a year,
but over time my nose began to retract, producing a foul odor and a sense of narrowing in the alar base.
I later learned these were signs of nasal contracture—a classic presentation of a contracted nose deformity.
From that point on, my nose became a constant source of stress and insecurity. It significantly affected my self-esteem.
After living with it for some time, I realized I couldn’t put it off any longer. I began searching for clinics that specialized in revision rhinoplasty for contracted noses,
but I couldn’t make a decision. Then, I came across a YouTube video featuring Dr. Hyun Joo Kim at RU Plastic Surgery discussing contracted nose reconstruction.
Strangely, I immediately had a strong feeling that this was the right place.
Although I wasn’t a candidate for immediate surgery due to tissue condition, Dr. Kim recommended stem cell injections prior to the revision procedure.
We proceeded with surgery using only autologous rib cartilage, and I underwent general anesthesia.
Post-op, the dryness in my throat from anesthesia was bothersome, and I experienced discomfort at the rib harvest site for about three days.
Despite feeling groggy after surgery, I remember Dr. Kim coming in to reassure me that the operation had gone well.
The nurses and consultants were also attentive and checked in frequently to make sure I had everything I needed.
Because of my severely retracted nasal tip and soft tissue loss, I expected very limited results. But when the nasal splint was removed, I was genuinely shocked by how full and well-shaped my nose appeared—even with residual swelling. The improvement was already so noticeable that I couldn’t help but feel incredibly satisfied.
I truly believe choosing RU Plastic Surgery and proceeding with the revision without hesitation was the best decision I could have made.
