One-Week Update After Revision Rhinoplasty for Contracture Using Autologous Rib Cartilage
본문

It has been about five years since my first rhinoplasty,
which was performed using ear cartilage and a silicone implant.
Whether it was due to the materials used or the surgeon’s technique,
I was not satisfied with the overall shape.
Two to three years later, I underwent revision rhinoplasty
using autologous rib cartilage.
After that surgery, I was somewhat satisfied with the result.
However, about a year later,
I developed acne-like inflammation and significant swelling around my glabella.
When I returned to the original clinic,
they told me it was an emergency
and that both the implant and rib cartilage had to be removed immediately.
Even after removal, the nasal shape was far from normal.
It appeared that severe contracture had progressed during that time.
My nasal tip became excessively upturned,
the nostrils were highly visible,
and there was clear asymmetry between the left and right sides.
I began searching for clinics specializing in contracted nose revision
using autologous rib cartilage
and carefully reviewed cases on plastic surgery apps.
What I realized was that even in contracture cases,
the final outcome varied greatly depending on the surgeon’s aesthetic judgment.
I was drawn to RU Plastic Surgery
because Dr. Hyun Joo Kim’s aesthetic sense aligned closely with my preferences.
As many reviews mentioned,
Dr. Kim personally handled postoperative disinfection and treatments,
which I truly appreciated—especially given my past experience with infections.
Even in the early postoperative stage,
he carefully monitored my condition to prevent any spread of inflammation,
which further reassured me that I had made the right choice.
For this revision surgery addressing nasal contracture,
both the nasal tip and dorsum were reconstructed using autologous rib cartilage.
We discussed whether to use sliced rib cartilage for the bridge,
but after a thorough consultation,
we decided to reconstruct the dorsum
using diced rib cartilage wrapped in scalp fascia.
Now, at one week post-operation,
the glabella area is still quite swollen,
but the nasal tip has already come down significantly,
and the overall nasal line looks beautiful.
I’m truly looking forward to seeing how the swelling continues to subside over time.
