Autologous Rib Cartilage Nose Revision Surgery Review
본문

At my previous surgery, only silicone and ear cartilage were used.
At first, I thought my nose looked higher,
but after about two months, it gradually went back down—
most likely as the swelling subsided.
That’s when I finally understood
why so many people end up needing revision rhinoplasty.
I visited several well-known clinics for revision surgery,
but none of them truly felt right,
and I found myself stuck worrying without making a decision.
Then, by chance, I spoke with a friend who works as a consultation manager.
When I shared my frustration about finding a reliable place for revision,
she introduced me to a surgeon she trusted.
That’s how I ended up at RU Plastic Surgery.
I learned that Dr. Hyun Joo Kim uses only autologous rib cartilage,
which initially surprised me,
since I had been considering donor rib cartilage.
However, after the consultation,
I understood that Dr. Kim specializes in autologous rib cartilage.
Although donor rib cartilage is an option,
autologous rib cartilage offers more advantages overall,
so I decided to proceed with that approach.
I was very worried about postoperative pain,
and yes—it did hurt a bit.
It has been about 20 days since surgery,
and if I apply strong pressure to the rib harvest site,
there is still some mild discomfort.
This was also my first experience with general anesthesia,
but honestly, the dryness in my throat afterward
felt similar to what I experienced with sedation,
so it wasn’t as different as I had expected.
I strongly requested that my nose be raised as much as possible
using only my own tissue.
However, because my nose has anatomical limitations,
Dr. Kim explained that it could not be raised excessively—
something other surgeons had also told me in the past.
At one week post-op, the swelling was quite severe.
But by around three weeks,
the major swelling had gone down significantly.
Now, I can clearly feel and see
the improvement in my nasal line and overall shape.
