One-Month Update After Fourth Revision Surgery for Contracted Nose
본문

It has been one month since I underwent revision rhinoplasty
for a contracted nose with Dr. Kim Hyun-joo at RU Plastic Surgery.
For both the nasal bridge and the nasal tip,
autologous rib cartilage was used.
The nasal bridge was reconstructed using diced rib cartilage
wrapped in scalp fascia,
while the columella and nasal tip were rebuilt
using solid autologous rib cartilage.
My very first rhinoplasty, many years ago,
was performed using ear cartilage and silicone.
However, about a year later, I developed an infection
and had to have all materials removed—
I believe silicone simply did not suit my body.
Several years later, after hearing about a well-known surgeon,
I underwent another surgery using donated rib cartilage and silicone.
Unfortunately, about a year after that procedure,
my nose gradually began to lift again.
I then visited another clinic,
where I received a dermis graft and nostril reduction.
However, the overall shape remained unsatisfactory,
and simply lowering the nostrils to conceal the upturned appearance
did not truly address the underlying structural problem.
After extensive research,
I finally discovered RU Plastic Surgery and came in for a consultation.
This time, for the first time ever,
I underwent revision surgery without using any artificial implants.
Because no implants were used,
I feel significantly less anxious about the risk of infection
and the long-term stability of my nose.
(Of course, I understand that infection can still occur
even with fully autologous cartilage surgery,
but the peace of mind is entirely different.)
What I especially appreciate about RU Plastic Surgery
is that Dr. Kim personally conducts every follow-up visit.
If there are any concerns or potential side effects,
he examines them himself and takes full responsibility,
which gives me tremendous reassurance.
At the moment, my nose is still quite swollen
and appears somewhat puffy—almost as if I have gained weight.
However, I was informed that this surgical technique
naturally involves significant swelling
and requires a longer period of time to fully settle.
I am patiently waiting for the final result.
