3 Weeks Post-Op – Autologous Rib Cartilage Primary Rhinoplasty

This is actually my first time writing a review!
For me, getting nose surgery wasn’t really about looking prettier or wanting a higher nose.
The real reason was due to my thyroid issue, which caused my eyes to protrude slightly.
Because of that, my nose looked flatter in comparison, and it made my glabella (area between the eyebrows) seem sunken.
So I had two main goals:
Improve the appearance of eye protrusion
Slightly elevate the nose bridge to help reduce nasolabial folds
I researched a lot of clinics with those goals in mind—through forums, cafes, and YouTube like most people do, haha.
That’s when I came across RU Plastic Surgery.
I decided to book a consultation for two main reasons:
1. I felt like the surgeon’s aesthetic sense matched mine after looking through a lot of before & after photos
2. Even though it was my first surgery, I wanted it done right the first time—so I chose a clinic that specializes in autologous rib cartilage
I actually prepared a whole 15-page PowerPoint presentation for the consultation… haha.
Since this was a major first surgery, I had so many things I wanted to ask and explain. (Tip: this helped a lot during the consultation!)
I organized everything: why I wanted the surgery, what I wanted to improve, the look I was aiming for, the look I didn’t want, and all my questions.
What really impressed me was how kind and thorough everyone was.
They gave me a full 2-hour consultation—1.5 hours with the coordinator and a full 30 minutes with Dr. Kim Hyun-joo.
They gave me plenty of time to think things over and explained why autologous rib cartilage would be used and how the improvements would be made. Super informative.
In the end, we decided on:
Columella correction (using autologous rib cartilage)
Bridge augmentation (+3mm)
I booked my surgery the same day.
Post-op, I was honestly shocked at how little swelling I had.
There was some swelling in the nose area, but none of the typical bruising or puffiness around the face. Zero. Even the rib cartilage pain was minimal—just a slight discomfort when moving around.
That alone told me how well the surgery was done.
At first, I was a little worried the tip of my nose looked too high.
But I made sure to walk a lot and stay relaxed—and now the height has settled just right, exactly how I wanted it.
Everything I wanted to improve has been corrected. Even my nasolabial folds look softer now—so cool, right? Haha.
Huge thanks to the amazing coordinator who helped me during the consultation, the marketing manager who followed up regularly, and of course, Dr. Kim Hyun-joo who handled everything from the first appointment through post-op care.
I love my side profile now, and honestly—I’ve stopped wearing a mask because I’m just too happy with how I look, haha!
