1 Month After Fifth Revision Rhinoplasty at RU Plastic Surgery
본문

Three years ago, I underwent rhinoplasty using autologous rib cartilage. However, around three weeks post-op,
I began experiencing purulent discharge and clear signs of infection. Despite multiple rounds of nasal irrigation and antibiotics,
the inflammation persisted, and after two months of struggle,
I was forced to undergo implant removal.
Living for over six months with a collapsed, deformed nose was physically and emotionally draining.
But I understood that waiting was crucial to allow the inflammation to fully subside before any reconstructive procedure could be attempted.
Seven months later, I underwent revision surgery using irradiated donor rib cartilage.
Though no infection followed that surgery, the repeated major operations over a short span had clearly taken a toll—my immunity weakened,
scarring was extensive, and nostril asymmetry became prominent. I was told by multiple specialists that further revision would be too difficult,
with minimal potential for improvement.
Over time, I became deeply self-conscious, avoided mirrors, and even stopped taking photos altogether.
It felt hopeless, but I knew I had to try one more time. After researching every reputable rhinoplasty clinic known for complex revisions,
I encountered Dr. Hyun Joo Kim at RU Plastic Surgery.
What stood out most during our consultation was his insight into the exact anatomical and structural issues I was facing—things no other doctor had clearly identified.
For the first time, I felt genuinely understood and hopeful. With that trust, I decided to proceed with what would be my fifth rhinoplasty.
This surgery involved full autologous rib cartilage reconstruction. Dr. Kim also addressed my nasolabial angle,
adjusted nostril asymmetry, and performed bulbous tip correction, which was necessary due to my thick skin and extensive scar tissue.
Aware that my skin type posed a higher infection risk, he proactively administered IV antibiotics and provided intensive post-op care.
One month in, I’ve experienced none of the warning signs I had seen in previous surgeries. The shape has settled into a refined straight-sloped profile,
just as I had hoped, and the nostrils, once severely uneven, are now nearly symmetrical.
Dr. Kim continues to follow my recovery closely with detailed check-ins, and the entire RU team—nurses, consultants, and staff—have been consistently kind and supportive.
Thanks to them, not only is my healing on track, but my self-esteem has also been restored.
I’m immensely grateful to Dr. Kim and the team at RU Plastic Surgery. I plan to take meticulous care of my results and work hard to maintain this newfound confidence.
