Functional and Aesthetic Rhinoplasty Using Autologous Rib Cartilage

Hello. I had long suffered from nasal congestion due to narrow internal nasal passages,
which led to chronic rhinitis.
I constantly felt uncomfortable breathing,
so I decided to undergo functional rhinoplasty
to improve both function and aesthetics.
I searched for a clinic with strong expertise in functional nasal surgery
and visited several clinics for consultations
before discovering RU Plastic Surgery.
I had consultations at four other clinics,
but I was either quoted unreasonable prices
or experienced consultation processes that felt insincere.
Just when I thought I needed to continue searching,
I met Dr. Hyun Joo Kim at RU Plastic Surgery.
During the consultation,
he provided detailed and kind explanations
about how my nose would be reshaped using autologous rib cartilage—
including how much height would be appropriate for my face
and what nasal shape would suit me best.
The CT scan was provided at no additional cost,
and the entire process felt transparent and reassuring,
which led me to choose RU.
Dr. Kim explained that he does not use ear cartilage,
but instead relies entirely on autologous rib cartilage
to construct the nasal framework.
While some clinics use mesh or synthetic materials
for septal support,
Dr. Kim prefers to avoid such materials,
using only autologous cartilage
for long-term stability and biocompatibility.
Fortunately, I experienced very minimal swelling
and almost no pain after surgery.
Follow-up visits were scheduled
for the day after surgery,
one week later,
and two weeks post-op.
At each visit,
I received anti-swelling injections
and had my healing progress carefully monitored,
which likely contributed to the minimal swelling.
I was able to go out wearing a hat and mask
just one day after the procedure—
if it weren’t for the external splint,
no one would have known I had surgery.
I had also heard that removing nasal packing
can be extremely painful,
but either Dr. Kim does not use deep packing
or I was simply fortunate—
the removal was quick and not painful at all.
I am beyond satisfied with the results.
The change in my appearance has been dramatic,
and I have received many compliments
on how much more refined and attractive I look.
