One-Month Review After Primary Correction Focused on the Nasal Tip
본문

Before surgery, I struggled with a dorsal hump, a long nasal tip,
and an arrow-shaped nose that widened unattractively when smiling.
My nostrils also flared outward, so I wanted improvement mainly in the nasal tip rather than the bridge.
Since I heard that RU Plastic Surgery specializes in revision surgery for saddle nose deformity and
autologous rib cartilage rhinoplasty, I went for a consultation.
It was the most expensive among the clinics I visited,
but I felt most reassured by the surgical plan:
strengthening the septal support using only autologous rib cartilage, without touching other cartilage sources.
Despite some confusion that occurred when the coordinator changed,
the final surgical outcome has been satisfying.
Because my dorsal bridge was already high due to the hump,
we decided not to alter the bridge at all.
The plan was a no-implant nasal dorsum combined with
autologous rib cartilage extension of the nasal tip only.
I was told that elevating the tip would also help retract
the flared nostrils upward, which should improve their appearance.
Regarding recovery:
I was told that days 3–4 would be the period of peak swelling,
yet I had virtually no swelling at all—
and no bruising either.
Since this was my first nasal surgery and only the tip was operated on,
I asked whether that was the reason.
However, the doctor explained that even the dorsal soft-tissue dissection
was performed, so that alone wouldn’t explain the minimal swelling.
My personal impression is that individual differences play a role,
but there also seems to be a clear difference in postoperative swelling
depending on Dr. Kim’s technique compared to other clinics.
By the two-week mark, aside from a slight roundness in the nasal tip,
there was absolutely no swelling,
and even the columellar scar is faint—only visible up close—
which made the recovery feel exceptionally fast.
As for autologous rib discomfort,
I originally assumed it wouldn’t be painful due to my body type
with less muscle and fat,
but I was wrong—
for the first four days, it was genuinely difficult to move.
Also, because mucus continues to accumulate in the nasal cavity,
I often sniffle, which makes my head feel a bit light
(I normally have rhinitis as well).
In terms of satisfaction, the improvement is outstanding.
Even though the frontal change is subtle due to the no-implant approach,
the nose looks extremely natural with no obvious signs of surgery,
and the side profile improvement is dramatic—
so I am extremely pleased.
People around me keep saying my image has changed a lot
and that the surgery result is excellent.
This procedure was performed at RU Plastic Surgery.
